This project, funded by our Australian donor, JSHEALTH, is already up and running. The Angel Network Western Cape, in conjunction with MercyAid, have set up the kitchen at a school in Salt River which is in dire need.
This soup kitchen will become a hub for the children to be fed, feel safe and learn to grow their own sustenance in a vegetable garden.
The hub, where the kitchen is running, will have a library. It will also be open during holidays offering a safe space for kids. The hub offers trauma counselling as so many of the children have suffered severe trauma.
The photos show the school as it was before the kitchen was set up and the outside area where a vegetable garden has been started. The children will be taught to plant, care for and harvest vegetables.
